Day 7 - Quick stop up at the University of Hawaii...I know where I want to do Grad Studies now. Then it was off to the Punchbowl Crater (north/central end of Honolulu, where as Diamondhead crater is south end). This also was the National memorial cemetary for military operations in the Pacific (so WW2, Korea, and Vietnam) Very serene place.
Looking back at the crater. Up in the main pavillion, there were huge murals depicting the pacific theatre of WW2, along with a written description. It was very impressive.
Then, walking up to the looking at the edge of Punchbowl. Looking out at Honolulu's downtown business center. Now south to Waikiki / Diamondhead crater.
Moi. Sans moi. Looking back, into the crater and memorial. It was very quiet.
Later that night, off to the Hilton Hawaiian Village... For some fireworks! Every Friday night.
It was pretty impressive considering they put this on weekly. Day 8, one last wandering around of the area after lazing about on the beach the entire day. One of several towers (and the front entrance) for the Hilton Hawaiian Village, not my hotel, but right across the road.. ...from my hotel, the Aqua Palms. Great, inexpensive hotel, I really liked it.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village was an impressive resort, with numerous waterfalls. Not to mention lots of tropical wildlife, such as turtles... ...lots of Koi...
...Flamingos... ...what? Finally, back to the beaches.
The waves were much higher the weekend I left than earlier in the week. Sun setting on Honolulu.
Honolulu by night, my last night there, wandering slowly back. Amazing city and location, all around.
